Happy Birthday to Me.
February 4th, 2008
In the blink of an eye, 51 years fly by.
I found this photo in an old box I got from my parents when we had to move them to a nursing home. It’s one of my favorites of myself as it shows a true, spontaneous happiness. It is still possible to regain it - that’s my birthday wish, for me and all of you too.

Happy Birthday!
I hope that you can find a way to put down your burdens at least for today.
And for the next year, as the saying goes, may the most you hope for be the least you get.

I don’t know what to say . . . I really appreciate you guys and your good wishes. Thank you so much. You’ve really helped me to feel not so alone in my struggle. I’m glad I could help you too.

I have this little clipping on my bulliten board at work. I forget what publication it came out of recently. It goes like this:
“People tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that will descend like find weather if you’re fortunate. BUT HAPPINESS IS THE RESULT OF PERSONAL EFFORT. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel the world for it. You have to participate relentlessly.” From Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert.
Happy Birthday to you! My birthday was Saturday. Last year I did not want people to tell me “Happy Birthday” because I wasn’t happy. This year I decided that I wanted to “participate relentlessly”. Wow…..what a difference. I think I will try to do that every day from now on…….
Not every day has to be “happy.” And who says what happiness really is. I refuse to live by someone else’s definition of happiness. I live in a small town, drive 5 miles to work, have two really cool kids and I know now that I am an artist, so I make handmade greeting cards…..and that makes me so happy.

Belated wishes for a very happy birthday and year. I am a silent reader that admires someone who can put into words what this trying, painful illness does to people. Thank you.
