Will the Real Cosmo Please Stand Up!

April 7th, 2008

Her name is Cosmo. Kramer’s Cosmic Mojo to be exact. She is the exact opposite of the black dog of depression. Most days she’s better than Prozac, Xanax and a gin & tonic combined. She is an English Bull Terrier which means she’s as close to a living cartoon as is possible. The bulldog part of the breed makes her sleep about 22 hours a day, the terrier in her makes her do bully runs which is the unique way Bull Terriers do their version of ‘rocket dog’. Unlike other dogs who grow out of the rocket dog phase, Cosmo is 8 (officially in the geriatric age group) and still manages a good huckle-butt once or twice a day.

When she’s tired, she sleeps, when hungry she eats or begs. When frisky, she plays and plays. She lives in the perpetual ‘now’. She is a Zen Master and my muse. I hope one day to be reincarnated as a Bull Terrier in my house.

Enjoy.

    What a cutie!!!!

Dogs are definately in the moment. I have put in my order to be one in my next life also……I haven’t pinned it down to a breed yet.

    Lisa,

Regardless of breed, you’ll definitely want to be reborn as a dog in my house. Life doesn’t get much better!

This was on one of the blogs I read daily. Thought you would like it.

Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened. - Anatole France

I have a friend who does animal rescue in Nevada. I spent my vacation with her helping to take care of animals that no one wanted. I fed, scooped poop, brushed, petted, walked and washed and I never felt so much love as I did that week that I was there. People who abuse or neglect or overbreed animals just don’t get the soulful value of them.

Cosmo, I think you and I are about the same age so coming to your house in the afterlife may not be possible. Laying on the couch with a Corona does some nice. We’ll set our sites on an owner that let’s us still drink beer!

    Lisa,

That’s a great quote and a wonderful story. Animals (especially dogs) give back to us so much more than we give them.

    Thank you.
