A Complaint Free World

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain. ~ Maya Angelo

A few weeks back I watched a story of CBS Sunday Morning about a church in Kansas City, MO. and how they had started a mission to change people’s attitudes for the better.

Rev. Will Bowen of Christ Church Unity in Kansas City, MO was teaching a series on Prosperity. Part of this series was helping the congregation to form a habit of gratitude by going 21-days without complaining. Studies show it takes 21 days for people to form a new habit. In an effort to make the lesson practical, the church purchased purple bracelets and gave them away encouraging them to move the bracelet to the other arm if they caught themselves complaining.

Complaint Free BraceletThe idea has taken off and the church has found orders for the bracelets pouring in from around the world. They only charge for shipping so it’s a very cheap project to take on.

Since I believe that the way we think influences the way we feel (actually I’m living proof as are a lot of folks walking a black dog) I thought I would take on the challenge and try to live complaint free myself. My package of purple plastic bracelets arrived today and it’s about time and I’m looking forward to an attitude adjustment.

It’s safe to say if you’re walking a black dog you’re more than likely not prone to a Pollyanna-ish mindset.  We think we’re ‘keeping it real’ by holding on to our pessimistic view of the world. Where has that gotten us? For me it’s time for a change - an attitude adjustment. If you’d like to get some for yourself just go to A Complaint Free World. It couldn’t hurt.
