If Not Now, When?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Didn’t sleep that well last night as I was jarred from a very deep sleep by the airhorn of a weather alarm radio telling me there was a severe thunderstorm watch.  A watch, not a warning. There’s no way I can see to turn off the ‘watch’ alert and only have it go off for the more serious ‘warning’. Because of my interrupted sleep I had to force myself to run when all I really wanted to do was crash on the couch. Running, sometimes it’s magic, sometimes it’s just work and sweat. Still there’s always a sense of accomplishment when I’m done and that’s worth something.

It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

It may not have been the sleep of the innocent last night but I had been very much out of it, dead to the world as they say. I kept hearing “Dad, dad . . . DAD!” It finally pulled me out of a deep R.E.M. coma. A light from the hallway silhouetted my son’s head poking through the door. Usually he’d be telling me he’s home or asking for money to go out.

“It’s really bad outside. I think we’re in trouble.”

Hitting Bottom & coming back

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Movie star Owen Wilson is reportedly out of the hospital and recuperating at home from his attempted suicide. It turns out he’s not alone in his celebrity world (or the common folk for that matter!). There’s quite a few famous people who suffer from depression and attempted suicide. Here’s a list that may surprise you. Keep in mind how the black dog is an equal opportunity afflict-er! Also keep in mind how they all bounced back and overcame bottoming out. There’s always hope.
